This model is 5'8, and weighs only 88 pounds. She is sick, and starving. Why isnt anyone helping her? Why isnt anyone taking her to the hospital? Because she is busy working. This young woman actually gets paid to starve herself and walk up and down a catwalk dressed in the latest fashions. There's no denying that eating disorders are becoming too common among teenage girls, but for modelling agency scouts and designers to actually hire these girls is beyond my understanding. So who should we blame for this? I think the responsibility lies with the designers. It is their choice to hire girls that haven't eaten a meal in months. They must honestly think a Versace or Gucci gown looks better on a woman whos body looks like a 9 year old boy. Contrary to popular belief, the bodies being shown on Fashion Television on runway shows are NOT healthy. These women were most definately NOT "naturally gifted" with their ribs protruding, their bones weak and brittle, and their eyes sunken into their faces. This took dedication, and their desire to be as thin as humanly possible. These women are sick, both mentally and physically. This illness causes young women to die, and if they are lucky to survive a life of eating disorders, they have wasted years of their life torturing their bodies. Starvation is not beautiful. Womanly curves should be embraced, not shunned. Designers need to stop dressing up these skeleton-like women in their fashions. They are taking advantage of the fact that these women are willing to hurt their bodies in order to obtain the "perfect body". Designers are sending the wrong message to females about healthy body image, and need to stop hiring these starving women.
